Professor Ngo Van Long was a James McGill Professor at McGill University. He was a prolific and influential general equilibrium economic theorist of the Samuelsonian tradition. He also contributed to other areas of economics, including but not limited to natural resources and environmental economics; international trade; theory of dynamic games and dynamic optimisation; and applied microeconomic theory, particularly industrial organisation theory and public economics. His contribution to academia is tremendous. He published at least 08 books, 65 book chapters, and close to 200 journal articles, with an h-index of 52. He also served as a co-editor and a member of the editorial board of prestigious journals, such as Energy Economics, Review of International Economics, or Mathematical Social Sciences.
He passed away in Montreal on 15 January 2022. His untimely passing has represented a severe loss to the discipline of economics worldwide.
In this regard, we have dedicated the conference and a special issue in FREP in honor of the late Professor Long's immense contributions to economic theory, From Economic Theory to Economic Policy: Contributions of Ngo Van Long. In this 2-day conference, we provide:
- Ten presentations in areas that Professor Long had significant contributions.
- A guest lecture entitled On the phases of late industrialization: constant returns, productivity gains and catching up, at 3.15-4.45pm Wednesday February 22, by Professor Pham Hoang Van, Baylor University, USA.
